Plot summary

Aileen Wuornos was convicted of killing men she met while she worked as a prostitute in Florida and was sentenced to death. A documentarian who had filmed her years before returns to Florida as her execution approaches, recording interviews with her in prison, where she says the killings were in self-defense. In Marion County, Florida, attorney Joseph T. Hobson seeks to vacate her death sentences at an evidentiary hearing and cross-examines her former trial counsel. People from her past, among them the woman who adopted her and friends from her childhood, describe her early life. The interviews raise doubts about the state's judgment that she is of sound mind.
