Plot summary
Nathan Del Amico is a lawyer in New York, and his marriage to Claire, his childhood sweetheart, has ended. Their son Paul died in his sleep, and since then Nathan has taken refuge in his work, while Claire lives elsewhere with their daughter Tracey. One day Nathan meets Dr. Joseph Kay, a doctor who calls himself a Messenger. Kay says he sees a white halo around people who are about to die, and that his task is to help them set their lives in order before the afterlife. Nathan does not believe a word of it. Then he witnesses scenes that seem to confirm the doctor's claims, and he begins to fear for himself.
