Plot summary
Since the death of her twin brother Billy, Anna has kept to herself in the shed in her mother Marion's garden, past her mid twenties and going nowhere. She spends her days on videos in which her thumbs play the parts, and earns money at a boating center. A week before her birthday, Marion lays down the law: move out, get a haircut, stop dressing like a teenager. A visit from a school friend makes the seclusion harder to hold, and Anna finds herself in the company of Clint, eight years old and troubled, whose mother is seriously ill, and of Brendan, a local estate agent whose awkward manner keeps foiling his attempts at romance.
