Plot summary
Sabine, a high school French teacher, reads her class a French newspaper report as a translation exercise: a terrorist hid a bomb in the luggage of his pregnant girlfriend, and Israeli security found it in time. Working through the text, Simon, who lives with his uncle Tom, imagines the report is his own family's history. In his version his Palestinian father, Sami, hid the bomb, the woman was his mother Rachel, a violinist, and Simon was the unborn child. Sami and Rachel died years ago in a car crash, and his grandfather Morris, who disliked Sami, left Simon fearing the crash was deliberate. Sabine asks Simon to write the story out as a drama exercise and read it to the class as though it happened. An online audience joins the argument the story raises.
