Plot summary
Kaisa Heller is a Scot who works as a lawyer in London, and she has just been promoted. She keeps her private life free of attachments, favoring cocaine and nameless encounters with men. Her mother, Helen, telephones from Aberdeen, a call that comes as a surprise. Helen is dying, and her final request is that Kaisa fly to Norway, collect Tomas, the father she has not seen in years, and bring him to the hospital to see her.
