Plot summary
Colombian soldiers Justo Perlaza, Nelson Venegas, Silvio Lloreda and Elmer Porras serve in a counter-guerrilla battalion in the jungle, where their unit takes part in combat against a FARC front and is ordered to join a mission to free American engineers held hostage. Their supplies are scanty, and Major Loaiza warns transport cannot evacuate them because of the weather. Near a guerrilla camp, Perlaza finds cans buried in the ground, and the soldiers uncover a fortune in cash that drug traffickers hid with the guerrillas. Porras, a married father, argues the money should be reported to Lieutenant Solorzano; the others want to divide it among themselves. Porras's wife Herlinda travels with their daughter Simona toward the village, reading the letter he sent.
