Plot summary
John Moon lives in rural West Virginia, feeding himself on deer he hunts near the trailer where he lives alone. His wife has taken their son and left him, and the family farm was sold after his father could not pay the mortgage; Cecil runs it now, and John is depressed. Stalking a deer on Nature Conservancy land with his shotgun, he fires and kills a young woman by mistake. The van where she had been hiding holds a box with $100,000 in it, and he hides her body in a shipping container. He asks a local lawyer, Pitt, to help bring his wife and son home.
