Plot summary
Ben Monroe, an American social psychologist, lives in Berlin after separating from his wife in California, teaching at a college and writing about how cults work. His sixteen-year-old daughter Mazzy arrives for a semester at an English school. On her arrival day, his colleague Max takes him to a suburban house where a group has killed themselves in a mass suicide, and there he meets Nina, a forensic detective. Unable to collect Mazzy, Ben texts her to take the train. She loses track of her stop and asks a young man, Martin, for directions; they trade numbers. Mazzy starts school and sees more of Martin, who attends an environmental activist group led by Hilma.
