Plot summary
A judge sends Tom Collins into counseling after another attempt on his own life. Tom is a twenty-something who has tried repeatedly to end things and failed every time, and a community service order also requires him to help Mr. Neilsen, a grumpy man. At the clinic he meets Eve McKinlay, a fellow patient, and Dr. Watson, an acerbic therapist whose sessions he attends. Tom concludes that his failures come from a lack of creativity, and he sets out to research and plan a spectacular suicide. He builds relationships with Eve, Dr. Watson and Mr. Neilsen while he works on it.
