Plot summary
By 1995 the fighting in the Balkans has nearly burned out, and the territory it left behind is devastated. Mambrú and B are veteran aid workers, and Sophie is new to the job. With Damir, their interpreter, the team sets out to retrieve a body from a well. The rope they bring tears on the first attempt, so the task turns into a search for another one. Local residents, UN forces, retreating combatants, a herd of cows and a pile of paperwork all stand in the way. Katya, Mambrú's former partner, and a young local boy named Nikola join the trip.
