Plot summary
An aging mobster is brought from his prison cell to a courthouse in Nice, where he might give up names. Milan, a hit man, takes a hotel room that looks onto the building, sets up a high-powered rifle and settles in to wait. In the room beside his comes François Pignon, a photographer whose wife has left him and who pities himself. He has chosen the hotel as the place to kill himself. His clumsiness, his talk and his telephone calls to his ex-wife and to the man she has taken up with all get in the way of Milan's plan.
