Plot summary
Alain Évrard is forty-eight years old. He has just walked out of prison, drives a truck for a living, and has nowhere to stay but the house of his mother, Yvette. The arrangement is meant to last only a while, yet sharing the house again stirs up the violence that ran through their relationship in the past. Alain then learns, by accident, that Yvette has a tumor in her brain, that the illness is fatal, and that she has chosen to end her suffering with an assisted suicide in Switzerland.
