Plot summary
Wendy Walton wants to design interiors under her own name, though her days go to assisting the callous Boston designer Priscilla Hall, who keeps her working around the clock. Sent to Priscilla's penthouse one evening, Wendy meets a stranger in the elevator; when it stalls, the two share an impulsive kiss, and she never learns his name. At work the next day she comes face to face with him again: he is Adam Hughes, Priscilla's boyfriend, and the sparkly makeup she wore that night keeps him from recognizing her. Priscilla and Wendy are then hired to decorate Adam's house for a Christmas fundraiser, where Wendy builds a theme around Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, a book Adam and his grandmother shared.
