Plot summary
Kathir and his sister Manja Kili belong to a wealthy Zamindar family and take pleasure in each other's misfortunes. Their grandfather Naathamuni, a Rajinikanth fan, dies when a repaired table fan electrocutes him, having swallowed diamonds he took for sugar cubes. Yama lets his soul make five wishes, which he will reveal at two-hour intervals as relatives arrive for the funeral. Manja Kili challenges Kathir to win their distant cousin Devi before the last rites; if he fails, he and his friends must wear half-sarees for three months. He asks Kaali to detain their uncle Bangalore Manohar so the last rites are pushed back, and draws Devi's notice with a poem, a dress and a meal he claims to have cooked.
