Plot summary
On January 6, 1975, at a clinic in Palermo, the nurse Gino La Monica swaps the labels on two newborns: his lottery ticket had the number 7 where the winning one had 8. Tommaso Scavuzzo grows up in the Scavuzzo family with his widowed mother and his sister Eleonora, and lives as a petty thief. Daniele La Blasca grows up as the son of an oppressive Carabinieri colonel and studies law, close to Marcella, a university assistant. The two are strangers when they meet by accident: Tommaso is running from the police, Daniele is late for an appointment with his thesis supervisor.
