Plot summary

Nicola, from Apulia, loses the use of his legs in a car accident and, during rehabilitation, becomes attached to Lucia, the therapist treating him. Franco and Manuela, married not long, want a child, but Franco's low sperm count means treatment, which Italian law forbids at home, so they travel to a clinic in Spain. In Lecce, Fosco and Filippo are in love; Fosco's father, unable to accept his son's homosexuality, cuts him off, and the couple also face laws barring marriage and raising a child. In Rome, Ernesto, a waiter with a wife and children, finds his life passionless, and he grows close to Cecilia, who works at the restaurant.
