Plot summary
Ann Stanley, a New York realtor, is vacationing in Greece when her rented car breaks down fifty miles from Argos. Peter Latham, a 22-year-old on a motorbike, offers her a ride, which she first refuses. She joins him in the water, they fish and drink ouzo, and he gives her a ring found in the sea. She leaves the next morning, having called herself Penelope Potter. In New York, her 17-year-old daughter Trina is waiting for a ride to a party, and Peter is the friend of Trina's date. Trina's grandmother is thrilled that Peter comes from a wealthy family. Peter, glad to see Ann again, questions Trina about her. Ann, uneasy about the age difference, keeps him at arm's length.
