Plot summary
Luther Edward Baxter works as an introverted clown in a traveling circus and dates another member of the troupe, Tracy Greaston. Tracy's friend Roxanne Doogan, who is really named Sarah Summers, resents the time the two spend together and tells the strongman Ralphio that Luther is raping Tracy. Ralphio beats Luther without letting him explain. Luther then strangles Roxanne and stabs Ralphio, and the dwarf Drago helps him get away from the circus. Word spreads inside the circus that Luther is dead, but Tracy keeps seeing him whenever the show moves to a new town. He has become the Teardrop Killer, who follows the circus and leaves a teardrop drawn in blood at each scene.
