Plot summary
Eighteen-year-old orphan Juliette lives with her guardians in Saint-Tropez and makes no effort to hide her sensuality, which stirs the local men and angers the women. She has been intimate with Eric Carradine, a wealthy man whose plan for a casino is blocked by the Tardieu family shipyard. When the eldest son, Antoine, returns from Toulon for the weekend, Juliette hopes he will take her back with him; his interest in her is purely physical, and the morning bus leaves without her. Her guardians threaten to return her to the orphanage, where she would stay until she is 21. Carradine asks Antoine to marry her and is refused. Michel, Antoine's younger brother, proposes instead, and Juliette accepts, though she loves Antoine.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about ...And God Created Woman (1956)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Director Roger Vadim based his screenplay on a real trial: a woman who had been the mistress of three different brothers and killed one of them. He was especially taken with her attitude toward her lovers, the jury and the police.
- Columbia Pictures agreed to provide the money, color and CinemaScope only if Curd Jurgens was given a role. With the three brothers already cast, Vadim rewrote the script in two days to expand an arms dealer part for Jurgens.
- Columbia Pictures acquired the small independent distributor Kingsley-International Pictures so the studio could avoid being linked to a film that violated the Hays Code with its nudity and adult themes.
- The Catholic National Legion of Decency rated the film "Condemned". A Columbia spokesman said a less restrictive "B" rating would have brought twice as many bookings but only half the business.
- The film became the biggest foreign-language film ever released in the United States at the time. In France it earned over $8 million, more than the country's biggest export at the time, the Renault Dauphine.
- In 1999 filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich credited the film with breaking French cinema out of U.S. art houses into the mainstream and with inadvertently paving the way for the New Wave filmmakers' takeover in France.
