Plot summary
Abel Davos has spent years hiding in Italy with Thérèse, his wife, and their young sons, and his money is running out. When the Italian police close in, he decides to go back to France, where he was tried in his absence and sentenced to death. Thérèse and the boys take a train to Ventimiglia from Milano Centrale, while Abel and his friend Raymond Naldi rob two bank couriers in Milan. The men cross into France by boat, and Abel reaches Nice with his sons. He telephones Henri "Riton" Vintran in Paris and asks him to bring Raoul Fargier and Jean "Jeannot" Martin to collect them. The old gang, comfortable now, buys an ambulance and hires Éric Stark, a young gangster they do not know, to fetch him.

- The gangster Abel Davos was based on Abel Danos, nicknamed "Le Mammouth" for his girth, whom writer José Giovanni had met in prison. Danos was a henchman for the Carlingue from 1941 to 1944 and was convicted of collaboration and shot on 13 March 1952.
- Overshadowed at its release by the French New Wave, Classe tous risques went on to influence French cinema, especially the subsequent work of Jean-Pierre Melville.
