Plot summary
Imraan Qureshi, Arjun Saluja and Kabir Dewan have known each other since school, and Kabir's engagement to Natasha Arora gives the three a reason to travel through Spain for three weeks. A pact from their school days says that on the trip each of them chooses an adventure sport the other two must attempt. Arjun, a London investment banker, says his work will not allow it. Imraan has a second purpose: a letter sends him looking for Salman Habib, an artist in Spain whom he believes to be his biological father. On the road to Costa Brava, Seville and Pamplona, Imraan and Kabir find Arjun working from the car, and Imraan throws his phone out of the window. On a beach the three meet Laila, and Kabir announces deep-sea diving as the first sport.

- For the song "Ik Junoon", the film re-created Buñol's La Tomatina festival, with almost sixteen tons of tomatoes flown in from Portugal.
- After release, PETA urged fans on Twitter to ban the film over its bull-running scene, spokesperson Poorva Joshipura said it would ask India's censor board to act, and Spanish-American artist Charo wrote asking Zoya Akhtar to cut the bull-running scenes; producer Ritesh Sidhwani said the Animal Welfare Board had cleared the film as no animals were hurt.
- Initially, the producers wanted Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan to play two of the three leads, but they declined without specifying a reason.
- Zoya Akhtar auditioned many women in New York and London for the part of Laila, wanting someone with an accent who would scuba dive and was half-Indian, half-Caucasian, before meeting Katrina Kaif at a party and casting her.
- Katrina Kaif's introduction scene was shot on a nudist beach, and the crew asked beach-goers to stay out of frame to avoid objections from the Central Board of Film Certification.
- The film's release was postponed twice because its original editor, Chandan Arora, fell ill and the film had to be re-edited.
- The flamenco song "Señorita" was filmed at night in Alájar, in the province of Huelva; the crew warned residents about the volume, and on the third day locals in costume attended and the mayor of Alájar joined them.
- A special screening of the film at Shah Rukh Khan's home on Katrina Kaif's birthday was criticised by Shiv Sena because it came three days after the 2011 Mumbai bombings; the producers then donated takings from around 10 Mumbai theatres to the Maharashtra government for the victims.
