Plot summary
For decades Mbah Sri has not known where her husband was buried. He vanished during the Indonesian National Revolution and has been missing for decades. She wants to rest beside his grave when her own time comes, so she sets out across Java to find it. Her grandson goes after her, and in the villages along the route he asks the people he meets what they remember of those years. The accounts he collects do not agree with one another. Each of them holds a different piece of the same past, of the displaced and of the land that Mbah Sri and her grandson are crossing.
