You Won't Be Alone (2022) on Netflix

Plot summary

In 19th-century Macedonia, a burned witch called the Wolf-Eateress enters the home of a newborn girl. The mother, Elica, begs her to spare the child and promises to give her up at sixteen. Maria robs the girl of her voice anyway. Elica keeps Nevena hidden in a cave, where she grows up knowing nothing of the world beyond it. On Nevena's sixteenth birthday Maria comes in the shape of an eagle, and Elica chases the bird out of sight. Maria kills her and puts on her shape. She makes Nevena a witch with a one-time spell, scratching her chest, spitting donkey blood on the wound and burning it. Nevena gains black talons. She refuses to feed on animals for their blood, and Maria abandons her. Watching Maria take the form of a wolf, Nevena learns how shapeshifting works.
