Plot summary
Marcus Ray and Tommy Hendricks sell V-Six jeans in Hong Kong, in the three days before the colony returns to Chinese rule. Tommy is preparing the company's fashion show. Marcus looks over counterfeit goods, the imitation watches, jewelry and dolls handled by his friend Eddie Wang and Eddie's associate Skinny. Karen Lee, their supervisor at V-Six, tells them that their last shipment held imitations and that the company holds them responsible for a loss of more than five million dollars.

- Jet Li was the original choice to play Inspector Han in Tsui Hark's Knock Off, but he turned the part down in order to play the villain in Lethal Weapon 4.
- The score was credited to Ron and Russell Mael of the band Sparks, but due to studio pressure the music ended up being more the work of additional composer Varouje Hagopian than the two of them.
- Some of the water-set action sequences were shot in the Philippines instead of Hong Kong because of security concerns over the actual handover ceremony taking place there in 1997.
- Knock Off is one of the last films in the world to show Kai Tak Airport still in use; the airport closed in 1998.
- As of 2026, Knock Off is Tsui Hark's second and last American film; he went back to Hong Kong afterwards, unsatisfied with his work in the United States.
