Plot summary
Lost Wells survived the holocaust, an outpost surrounded by a wall of old cars, built around a gas station, and its people keep the source of their water hidden from the outside world. Fifty years have passed without rain, and water is as precious as life. Ethan leads the town. Angie, the last schoolteacher on the planet, holds lessons in an old school bus, and one of the few books the town still has is an etiquette manual by Emily Post. A pseudoreligious cult led by Derek, its members following a book about Charles Manson, discovers the water and wants control of the town's supply. No match for Derek's armed force, the townspeople hire mercenaries from a distant city, among them Nitro and Ten Watt, commanded by George Landon.

- Derek's cult in the film was originally meant to follow L. Ron Hubbard's Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health. The book was swapped for one about Charles Manson after the Church of Scientology threatened a lawsuit.
