Plot summary
Anna Politkovskaya works as a journalist and human rights activist in Russia. She begins at a local print publication and later writes for the newspaper Novaya Gazeta, whose editor is Dmitry Muratov, a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Her reporting takes her into Chechnya, where she covers the war. Her articles set out to expose corruption in the Russian state under Vladimir Putin. Intimidation and violence shadow the work she does, and a poisoning is among the pressures she faces. She refuses to give up the reporting on Chechnya, whatever the danger to herself. Her husband is Alexander Politkovsky, and her son is Ilya.
