Plot summary
Olivier Rousteing was named creative director of the French luxury house Balmain at 25, when he was still little known, and has led it to new heights in the decade since. Alongside that work he is looking for his biological parents, a search he had earlier hesitated to begin. A filmmaker who had also been abandoned as a child encouraged him to start and talked Balmain into allowing a film about the search, asking for unrestricted access to the house and for the right to decide the finished film, with Rousteing not performing for the camera. She paid for it herself, raising about 1.2 million dollars from several sources, among them the French government. Shooting began in 2017 and took roughly a year and a half.
