Plot summary
In 1994, Jacques Audiard directed his first feature, Regarde les hommes tomber, and the shoot was an ordeal for a beginner the narration calls misanthropic. He had come to directing from work as an editor and a scriptwriter. The documentary follows the eight features he has made since, pictures that have renewed French cinema while winning over both critics and audiences. Sur mes lèvres, in 2001, established his way of filming: restrained lyricism, images left deliberately imperfect, and ellipses that pull viewers into a rush of sensations. Every new project, he says, is a chance to start over, and each one brings challenges and doubts.
