Plot summary
Hiam Abbass grew up in Deir Hanna, a Palestinian village in the Lower Galilee, with her mother, her grandmother and seven sisters around her. In her early twenties she moved to Europe to build a career as an actress, leaving them behind. Thirty years afterward, her daughter Lina Soualem goes back to the village with her. The journey gives Lina the chance to question her mother, for the first time, about the reasons for her departure and about the exile she accepted, and to consider how the women of the family shaped the lives of both mother and daughter.
