Plot summary
Kelly, a skeptic, joins her boyfriend Jim on a trip to Humboldt County, California, so he can make his own Bigfoot footage. Jim believes the creature is real and picks Willow Creek, a small town near where the Patterson-Gimlin film was shot in 1967. There he interviews locals about the legend, and the couple notices a poster of a missing woman on a restaurant wall. They drive into Six Rivers National Forest to search for the filming location. A man they meet on the way angrily tells them to leave, and they ignore him. They pitch their tent in the middle of the woods and swim in the water, and when they come back the camp has been torn apart.

- For the interviews seen in the film's first half, Bobcat Goldthwait deliberately did not tell the Willow Creek locals they were in a movie, wanting their answers to stay natural; he had the actors conduct the interviews and drive the conversation themselves.
- About half a year before shooting, Bobcat Goldthwait drove a 1400-mile road trip around California visiting Bigfoot hotspots, because he wanted to be sure he had the right locations.
- The shoot was rushed: Bobcat Goldthwait said people were nervous they would not manage to make the whole film in a week, and that once the crew reached Willow Creek they had to start filming right away.
- The cast and crew on Bobcat Goldthwait's film came to about seven people in total, and they were joined by a couple of Bigfoot experts who went out with them.
