Plot summary
Critical Jim, a hitman who measures a story against the classic films he loves, holds a man at gunpoint whom he believes to be Cletis Tout. The man insists he is Trevor Allen Finch, a white-collar criminal who escapes from jail with Micah, an inmate who stole diamonds more than twenty years earlier and hid them. A coroner who owes Finch a favor supplies the pair with new identities, and the name Finch receives belongs to Cletis Tout, a photojournalist the Mafia wants dead. Tess Tobias, Micah's grown daughter, enters Finch's life as the two men try to recover the diamonds. Jim agrees to hear the whole account, since a good story is what he prizes most.
