Plot summary
King, in his early twenties, has spent years on the streets of Los Angeles and leads a group of teenage runaways: Greg, Little J, Crasher and Brenda. Two months in prison for assault have left the group splintered, and he returns to find the family he built has come apart. He takes in Heather, a seventeen-year-old who has arrived from Chicago. While Greg and Little J fight over stolen car stereos, King and Heather struggle to earn money, and King will not turn to prostitution the way Little J's friends Rob and Kimmy do. He has not forgotten Tommy Ray, who killed his girlfriend, Devon.
