Plot summary
Each of the eight patients in the group carries a private neurosis, and one of them, Alfredo Signorello, is an obese man with religious obsessions. Their analyst, an elderly woman, has a heart attack and dies partway through a session, and the group is left without a therapist. Alfredo declares himself healed and wants no more of it. The other seven resolve to keep meeting, but they cannot find a new analyst, and the possibility arises that they should run the sessions themselves. Galeazzo 'Gegé' Tinacci, Flavia Vizzini, Chiara, Marco, Ernesto Battistini, Gabriella, Luca and Daria are among the patients.
