Plot summary
Maja and Helmut live in different cities. She is the author of books about architecture and makes her home in Berlin; he holds a professorship in literature at Tübingen. The distance does not trouble her, and she takes the marriage to be a harmonious one. Then Helmut speaks of another woman. She is 43, the mother of a child by him, and that is what hurts Maja more than the affair itself.
