Plot summary
Zef and Roni Melkowich are brothers who have never seen eye to eye. Roni is the wealthy one. One brother follows the rules of his faith, the other takes each day as it comes, and their opposite ways of living keep them apart. Zef's wife dies in an accident at the moment when Roni is marrying Zef's daughter. The widower turns up with the coffin while the wedding feast is being prepared, and the celebration loses its warmth. From then on the two men find a reason to quarrel in everything, whether it is work, women or religion, and the family's gatherings in London, Paris, Saint-Tropez and New York become scenes of confrontation.
