Plot summary
Alberto is back in Milan, where he runs a program to improve efficiency at the Italian Post. The work absorbs him, and his wife Silvia feels neglected. In the south, Mattia lives with his wife Maria, who urges him to commit to his postal job now that they have a son. After an argument, Mattia asks for a transfer to the north. A misunderstanding sends him not to Pordenone but to Milan, where he arrives at Alberto's door. Alberto greets him without warmth, preoccupied by trouble at work: the head of Milan's largest postal company plans to introduce a new economic plan from Japan that will change the postal service. Mattia begins working in the same office, where Alberto is deputy director, and notices how different the local mentality is.
