Plot summary
At thirteen, Walt Disney begins to love animation and film. In 1919 he comes back from the Red Cross and shares a house in Kansas City with his brother Roy and Roy's girlfriend Edna. Walt takes an artist's job at Pesmen-Rubin Commercial Art Studio, where he meets Ub Iwerks, and when declining revenue costs them both their places, the two found Iwerks-Disney Commercial Artists, working out of an old barn. Animators Fred and Hugh Harman join them, and the Laugh-O-Grams they make are shown in Frank L. Newman's theaters. Investors put up the money for the Laugh-O-Gram Studio, where Walt hires Friz Freleng and Rudy Ising. Money is short, so the animators and the rent go unpaid, and Walt pitches the New York distributor Margaret Winkler a series that mixes live action and animation.
