Plot summary
The county sheriff of Shelton County, Nick's father, dies in a car accident that looks staged, and Nick Prescott, a Marine veteran, comes home to the small Texas town where he grew up. The community he left is now overrun: a gang intimidates and blackmails business owners into selling. Harvey Morris leads it. Deputy Hap Worrell and FBI agent Kate Jensen are among the few people Nick can count on. His father had stood against the gang while he wore the badge; Nick takes up that fight, working with the FBI agent and the deputy to gather evidence against Harvey and the gang.
