Plot summary
Jared Cole lives beside a beach in the Bahamas with his girlfriend Sam Nicholson and dreams of finding one of the treasure ships lost in those waters. Sam works as a shark handler at a local resort. Jared's childhood friend Bryce Dunn, a New York lawyer, arrives for a holiday with Amanda Collins, whom he met the night before. Snorkeling, Jared spots artifacts on the sea floor. The four investigate and find remains of the pirate ship Zephyr, and a plane that crashed in a hurricane with a cargo of cocaine.

- The DVD special features chronicle how much of the film was shot live in the sea off the Bahamas with live, wild sharks, the crews wearing chain mail for protection while the cast performed in the water unprotected.
- In an early scene Paul Walker has to grab two fins and a dive mask flung to him by Jessica Alba; during filming he missed the mask, which was never seen again after hitting the water, and the DVD suggests a shark took it.
- Director John Stockwell wanted Jessica Alba and another actor to be in the water with the tiger shark, but Alba refused to get in, citing concerns about swimming with a wild tiger shark.
- Jessica Alba earned a nomination for Worst Actress at the 26th Golden Raspberry Awards for this film and for Fantastic Four, but "lost" to Jenny McCarthy for Dirty Love.
