Plot summary
Deceived and left penniless, Tasia, a poor countrywoman, arrives in Athens by hitchhiking, chasing Vangelis Lepouras, the impostor who took every penny she had. She wins the trust of Kyriakos Balores, a self-made wholesaler, and is taken into his house as a maid, at a time when a gang of slick con artists is circling him. Balores's daughter Lia brings home the writer Faidon Tramountanas and asks him to finance a scenario. Her brother Lakis wants to make his way in the wholesaling trade and would rather deal with a rock band. Ismini, Kyriakos's sister, thinks of nothing but the card deck.
