Plot summary
Professor Hartman commands an expedition to Venus in 2020, and the ships Vega, Sirius and Capella leave Lunar Station 7. The crews cover 200,000,000 miles and are the first men to land on the planet. An asteroid collides with Capella and the ship explodes. Vega stays in orbit, and its crew sends the astronauts Kern and Sherman down to the surface with the robot John, while communication between them and Dr. Marsha Evans aboard Vega is troubled. Sirius lands on Venus, and Commander Brendan Lockhart, Andre Ferneau and Hans Walters step into a mist-shrouded prehistoric world of monstrous creatures and giant plants.

- Roger Corman bought the rights to the Soviet film Planeta Bur (Planet of Storms) and used footage from two more Soviet science fiction films, A Dream Come True and Battle Beyond the Sun, to create both Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet and Queen of Blood.
- Basil Rathbone and Faith Domergue shot their scenes for the film in half a day, wearing the same costumes and on the same set used for Curtis Harrington's Queen of Blood.
- Curtis Harrington kept his own name on Queen of Blood but was screen-credited on Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet as "John Sebastian", a pseudonym derived from Johann Sebastian Bach.
