Plot summary
Harry West finds gold in an idol that a voodoo tribe in Bantalaya, a French jungle colony, worships. He brings in treasure hunters from the United States; Marilyn Blanchard kills him and takes his map, then she and her partner con Ted Bronson, a jungle guide, into leading them to the tribe. In the same jungle, Dr. Roland Gerard experiments with native voodoo and his own biochemistry, trying to make a superhuman that will mother a deathless race under his control. His wife Susan stays with him against her will, held by the doctor and the natives. His first attempts at a female superbeing fail because the subject lacks the killer instinct. Meeting the treasure hunters, he decides Marilyn is the right subject.

- A prop man handed Tom Conway a vial of real acid for a scene where it was to be poured on the creature's leg, leaving Paul Blaisdell, who played the monster, with a scar on his shin that lasted the rest of his life.
- The Voodoo Woman monster was really the She-Creature costume stripped of its tail, fins and pincer-like claws, wrapped in a burlap sarong with a skull mask and blond wig, so director Edward L. Cahn hid it with quick cuts, shadows and foliage.
- Mike Connors said the jungle was built on a stage where the camera could shoot only about ten feet at a time, so he had to picture himself deep in Africa inside a set just ten feet by ten feet square.
- Producer Alex Gordon wanted Peter Lorre for Voodoo Woman, but Lorre again refused to work with him, and George Zucco was too ill, so Tom Conway was cast instead, joining Marla English and Paul Dubov from The She-Creature.
- Makeup man Harry Thomas supplied the monster's skull mask and wig, bought from a Halloween costume store, and it looked so phony that Paul Blaisdell had to completely rework the head at the last minute.
- Marla English came down with a bad case of flu during the shoot, while Lance Fuller and Mike Connors competed over who could be taller by adding higher and higher lifts to their shoes.
