Biography

Marla English was an American film actress who worked in the 1950s. Born in San Diego, California, she started as a teenage model and in 1952 won a local beauty pageant that led Paramount Pictures to offer her a contract. She appeared in Red Garters (1954) and Rear Window (1954), though editors often cut her scenes. Her breakthrough came when Aubrey Schenck borrowed her from Paramount for the film noir Shield for Murder (1954) with Edmond O'Brien. In 1955 she was hired for The Mountain, a drama set in the French Alps that paired her with Spencer Tracy, but she left the production and Paramount suspended her, replacing her with Barbara Darrow. Her other films included Runaway Daughters (1956) and Flesh and the Spur (1956), plus The She Creature (1956) and Three Bad Sisters (1956). She also performed with John Ireland in Hell's Horizon (1955).
