Plot summary
Peter Morgan Jr. teaches botany at the university in Old Sharon that his father runs. Sent to Manhattan to bring back his cousin Keith, he meets Francey Brent, the nightclub singer Keith has been courting, and the two marry within a day. He brings her home, but Mr. Morgan is proud and overbearing, and Peter cannot bring himself to tell his parents about the wedding. His mother's heart condition interrupts each attempt. Mr. Morgan and Helen, the blueblood woman engaged to Peter, assume Francey is one more of Keith's girlfriends, so she passes as a new botany student and stays at a hotel that admits only women while Peter looks for a way to explain.
