Plot summary
Julius Shulman was widely regarded as the most prominent architectural photographer of the twentieth century. Over a career that began in the 1930s, he photographed buildings by many leading modern architects, among them Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, John Lautner and Frank Gehry. His photographs frequently included human models and dramatic landscapes, blending nature with contemporary design. This approach helped define Southern California modernism and introduced its buildings to a broad public. Among his best-known images is the photograph of Case Study House 22, a key work of the Modernist movement. Shulman continued working until his death at age ninety-eight. The film presents a lively portrait of a magnetic personality whose camera shaped how the world sees modern architecture.
