Tom Ford

Tom Ford is an American fashion designer and filmmaker who was born in Austin, Texas. He began his career as a design assistant in New York before joining Gucci in 1990, where he rose to creative director by 1994 and later took charge of Yves Saint Laurent as well. After leaving the Gucci group in 2004, he launched his own fashion brand, Tom Ford, in 2005. He wrote and directed his first film, A Single Man (2009), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and brought Colin Firth its best actor prize; he followed it with Nocturnal Animals (2016), which won the Grand Jury Prize at Venice. He led the Council of Fashion Designers of America as chairman from 2019 to 2022, and in 2014 the CFDA gave him its Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.
