Plot summary
Near the temple of the deity Veeran in Veeranor, a village in Coimbatore, fifteen-year-old Kumaran is struck by lightning and slips into a brief coma. He is sent to Singapore to recover and discovers he has electrokinesis, superhuman strength and a temporary power of mind control. Fourteen years later Kumaran comes home and shows his friends Sakkarai and Selvi what he can do, then tells them about visions of the village's destruction. A technology company, JACL, has run cheap laser cables through Veeranor; a company member has been warning that the cables are volatile, but the villagers ignore him and the police have been bribed. JACL, led by the scientist Sarath, his brother Thruv and the politician Sharath, wants thirty-six uninterrupted kilometers of the cable and tests experimental serums on people.
