Van Halen: The Van Halen Story (2003) on Netflix

Plot summary

A documentary account of Van Halen's early years, built from interviews with people who were close to the group when it began. Roadies, producers, bodyguards, childhood friends and fellow musicians describe how four young players came together, and what the club circuit was like for them. The band members are heard as well. The film follows the years when David Lee Roth sang with the group and gives most of its attention to the club years and the group's first world tour. Archival footage and photographs that had not been shown before accompany the recollections. Among the interviewees are a photographer, a drummer, a guitarist and the owner of The Whiskey.
