Plot summary
Lieutenant William Calhoun works at Chicago Union Station, where a passenger named Joyce Willecombe comes to him with a worry about two men who rode her train. The two men leave a suitcase in a storage locker. Inside are clothes that Joyce recognizes as Lorna Murchison's. Lorna is blind, and her father Henry Murchison is wealthy; Joyce works for him. Murchison tells Calhoun that his daughter has been taken and a ransom is demanded. He fears that police involvement would put her life in danger. Inspector Donnelly urges him to accept help.
