Plot summary
Louis Zamperini returns to California after World War II. He was an Olympian and a bombardier, held as a prisoner of war, and he does not consider himself a hero. Nightmares of his torment follow him home, and his post-traumatic stress goes untreated. The warden who tortured him, Mutsuhiro Watanabe, appears in flashbacks. He meets Cynthia Applewhite and they marry. His family includes his father Anthony, his brother Pete and his sister Sylvia.
